Heart examination in Moss
When the Norwegian toydog-club arranged their main-show in Moss at Oct. 10th. 2004, we where offered a free examination of our dogs' hearts by vet. stud. Anders Odhelius from Sweden. Mr. Odhelius was investigating the prevalence of MVD in King Charles Spaniels for his master thesis at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
Because mr. Odhelius wanted as many new cases as possible - at least 20 - (dogs wich he hadn't examined in Sweden the year before) we where uncertain if we could collect this many dogs. I started to call around, and I was very surprised and disapointed that many breeders refused to participate. In the end I was promised that the number ofdogs requierd should arrive this day.
The examintaion started after the breed was judged. Mrs Inger Balken in the commitee arranged for us to borrow a locker-room in this case and mrs. Grete Arnesen arranged that mr. Odhelius and his wife was served food and drinks. Thanks to these two ladies that made it possible for us to arrange the examination.
27 King Charles Spaniels had their hearts examined in Moss this day
- Of those between three and five years, three was examined and
all free from heart-murmur

Of those between five and seven years, seven was examined and
two was free from heart-murmur

Of those over seven years, five was examined and two was free
from heart-murmur
Further more in this unique examination, those of us who had dogs with heart-murmur were invited to the University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, Sweden to also have an ultrasound scan done of our beloveds hearts. Even mr. Odhelius' supervisor professor Clarence Kvart would take part in this examination.
This would be an unique opportunity for us to take part in and to see what was wrong with our dogs hearts. So of course we went there
